  • Why should I take elderberry syrup?
    I’m not here to convince you to take it, but I have found it an effective way to strengthen my own immune system. I know many others already use it, so I wanted to offer an affordable option. Also, I wanted to offer a healthier version compared to many store bought brands.
  • What comes in a kit?
    Each kit includes: Organic Dried Elderberries Organic Dried Cut Ginger Organic Dried Cut Turmeric Organic Goji Berries Organic Cloves Organic Rose Hips Organic Peppercorn Organic Ground Cinnamon You'll simply add water and a liquid sweetener (such as pure maple syrup). ​ Instructions for preparation will be included with each kit and each purchaser will receive access to my how-to video tutorial, demonstrating how easy a process it is once your kits arrives. ​ Each kit makes up to 32 oz of syrup! ​ Syrup should be stored in the refrigerator, ideally consumed within 6-8 weeks. Unopened Elderberries Kits can be kept up to 1 year. I recommend freezing for longer storage.
  • How much does 1 kit make?
    Each kit makes up to 32 oz of syrup!
  • How long will my kit last?
    Each kit makes 1 batch of syrup, which is at least 56 tablespoons (56 doses for a child or 28 doses for an adult). How long your kit lasts will depend on how often you take the syrup and how many people in your home use it. Realistically people often forget a day here and there to take their elderberry, which is okay! So you can see, one kit could be considered a one-month supply for one adult or less, depending on the number of people per household consuming the syrup. Good news - you can purchase multiple kits at once! This will allow you to prepare for another batch as soon as you run out.   • How do I make it?
    It’s so simple! Add the contents of the kit to a saucepan and add water. Bring to a boil, then cover with a lid and simmer very low for 30 minutes. I recommend you let it steep for one hour then add your sweetener of choice (my personal go-to is pure maple syrup). Once you purchase your kit I will share a video tutorial of the process for an added visual demonstration.
  • What does it taste like?
    Elderberries are poisonous when raw, so they always need to be cooked!Elderberries alone can be a bit bitter. They aren’t a sweet eating berry like blueberries and strawberries. When you add the sweetener you end up with a sweet, rich berry flavored syrup. There isn’t the acidity that you find from raspberries or marionberries and the flavor profile is deeper than these berries, more similar to that of a blueberry.
  • Is elderberry alone enough to keep me healthy?
    No, but it is a tool in your toolbox for immune support. However, elderberry syrup alone can’t counteract daily poor health habits (such as poor diet, lack of sleep, stress, etc.). As with all natural health tools consistency can be key, which is why I have adjusted my routine to include elderberry syrup regularly instead of only when I feel an illness coming on.   • Why have I not heard of elderberries before?
    Elderberries have been used in traditional medicine for centuries. In recent years some scientific data has shown promising effects from consuming elderberry syrup, however the studies are small. I believe in science and also recognize in the expanse that is the nutrition science field there is much still to be explored. To help fill in the gaps science has yet to clarify I firmly believe we must learn from history. The history of elderberry shows that it has been a powerful medicine for generations. Many people have reported health benefits including combating viral illness, decreasing nerve pain, improving inflammatory pain and even chronic fatigue. Due to the longevity of elderberries, the anecdotal evidence and my personal experiences I believe it is a great aid in my overall healthy lifestyle.
  • Why are you selling these kits?
    I created Love & Plants to help others learn to improve their health. I love offering tools and resources to empower people to better their wellbeing, which is why I began selling elderberry kits. I have personally benefited from using elderberry syrup and want others to benefit as well. However, store bought elderberry syrup is expensive and many have ingredients that can be detrimental to your health such as fructose syrup, preservatives, and natural flavors (it is unknown what this includes). My recipe for elderberry syrup includes whole-food plant-based ingredients that provide an added array of immune support. The recipe also gives you control over sweetness level so that you can be assured the finished product is customized to your preferences. I have been making elderberry syrup for many years. Knowing it can be easy and inexpensive made me want to share my recipe with others. As long as I can source the ingredients for reasonable prices I’ll keep offering these kits!
